Itinerary
March 3 – Arrive to Colombo International Airport. Meet your Village Experience representative and transfer to hotel on the beach in Negombo.
March 4 – Free day to enjoy the pool, the beach, and just relax after long flight. (B)
March 5 – Morning drive to the UNESCO World Heritage Dambulla Caves and Royal Temple. This sacred cave monastery has been a pilgrimage site for over 22 centuries. Stop for lunch. Then, continue on to our oasis in Sigirya. Our hotel has unparalleled views of Sigiriya Rock and Pidurangala. Relax and enjoy the views and the infinity pool. (B)
March 6 – This morning, we’ll head to the UNESCO World Heritage site of Sigiriya to explore this ancient rock fortress and climb Lion’s Rock. We’ll then enjoy an afternoon safari at one of the nearby national parks to go in search of Asian elephants. Return to hotel in the early evening. (B)
March 7 – Day trip to the ancient kingdom of Anuradhapura. This UNESCO World Heritage site dates back to 1000 BC and was once the foundation of Buddhism. 23 centuries later, it is still a revered pilgrimage site. Spend today exploring the ancient ruins, stupas, palaces, temples and shrines. Stop for lunch. Return to hotel in the afternoon. (B)
March 8 – Morning drive to the gorgeous Lake Kandalama. Check into hotel – this particular hotel is special because it is solely owned and operated by women – right up our alley! In the afternoon, we celebrate International Women’s Day with several events planned with our board members and ambassadors. Then, we’ll team up with the women from the hotel for a fun cooking class and dinner in the evening (B,D)
March 9 –Day trip to the ancient kingdom of Polonnaruwa. This became the capital of Sri Lanka after the destruction of Anuradhapura in 993 AD. It contains Brahmanic monuments build by the Chola Dynasty (from India), a royal palace, audience hall, stupas, the sacred quadrangle and more. Well then enjoy a special lunch to try all kinds of incredible Sri Lankan food. Return to hotel in the afternoon. (B,L)
March 10 – Check out of hotel and head to Kandy to see the UNESCO World Heritage site of the Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic and the remains of the ancient Kingdom of Kandy. This was the capital of Sri Lanka for over 2,500 years until the British took over in 1815. Enjoy lunch and then check into colonial style hotel in the hills of Kandy for the evening. (B)
March 11 – Free day to relax and enjoy the pool and spa OR go exploring on your own. We can also set up an optional tour to the beautiful Peradeniya Botanical Gardens or the Temple Loop including Embekke, Lankathilake, and Gadaladeniya Temples. (B)
March 12 – Morning drive to Colombo. Tour of Colombo to see the famous Red Mosque and the Gangaramaya Temple. Stop for lunch and fair trade shopping at Bare Foot Ceylan. Check into Galle Face Hotel. This impressive colonial hotel sits on the ocean and has a stunning pool to relax and enjoy. (B)
March 13 – Free day to enjoy Galle Face Hotel area. Walk along the boardwalk, try some local restaurants and cafes, or do a little shopping. We also suggest spending some down time at the pool before your flight home tomorrow. (B)
March 14 – Transfers to airport. (B)
