Itinerary
June 28 – Arrive to Manda Airport in Lamu in the afternoon. Meet your representative and transfer via boat to Shela Village. Check into accommodations and enjoy some free time on the beach. Join the Shela Women’s Association in the evening for a samosa making class and traditional Swahili dinner. This is a part of our responsible tourism program on the island (and some of the best food of the trip!). (D)
June 29 – Today, you’ll board Hippo Dhow for some sailing around the channels, a bit of fishing, swimming in the Indian Ocean, and a fresh fish bbq for lunch on the water. Hippo Dhow is another one of our responsible tourism partners in Lamu. (B,L)
June 30 – Sleep in and relax. After breakfast, meet your local guide and enjoy a walking tour of Shela Village. Visit the dhow making area, learn about Swahili architecture, visit the local artisan shops, stop for coffee at a women owned and operated cafe, and more. Enjoy the beach in the afternoon. Enjoy an evening sunset sail with Hippo Dhow. (B)
July 1 – Check out of hotel in the morning. Relax and enjoy lunch until afternoon flight back to Wilson Airport. (B)
