Itinerary

June 1 – Arrive to Ngurah Rai International Airport in Bali. Meet your Village Experience Representative and transfer to Kejora Suites in Sanur.

June 2 – This morning, we will check out of the hotel and head to Ubud. Our first stop will be the Goa Gajal Elephant Cave Temple. We’ll then visit the holy spring of Tirta Empul, surrounded by a shrine to the God Indra. Our last stop will be at the famous Tegalalang Rice Terraces. Enjoy some free time to explore, take photos, and grab lunch. Check into Ubud Village Hotel centrally located in Ubud in the afternoon. (B)

June 3 – Morning tour of the Sacred Monkey Forest for a nice walk. We’ll then head to our traditional Balinese Cooking Class for lunch. Free afternoon for shopping and exploring the markets. (B,L)

June 4 – Today, we will check out of our hotel and head to the coffee producing region of Munduk. On the way, we will visit the Jatiluwih Rice Fields. We’ll then make a stop at Pura Ulan Danu Brayan Temple to honor Dewi Danau – the Goddess of the lake. After lunch, we’ll drive to the twin lakes of Buyan and Tamblingan. Enjoy a hike to the Pura Ulan Danu Buyan Temple. Then enjoy a peaceful boat ride on Lake Tamblingan with beautiful views of Pura Dalem Tamblingan Temple. Check into our favorite hotel, Munduk Moding Plantation, located on a working coffee plantation with views into the clouds. (B)

June 5 – Free day at the hotel to enjoy the pool, the view, and the coffee plantation’s daily activities. (B)

June 6 – Check out of hotel and visit Taman Ayun Temple built in the 17th century by King Mengwi. After lunch, make a stop at Pura Tanah Lot Temple – one of the holiest temples in Bali built into a huge rock surrounded by the ocean. After lunch, we’ll check into Kejora Suites in Sanur. Enjoy sunset and dinner on the beach. (B)

June 7 – Morning pickup from hotel for early afternoon flight to Medan in Sumatra. Upon arrival, transfer to Bukit Luwang National Park and check into simple, but beautiful Ecolodge Bukit Luwang Cottages. Relax after a long day of travel. (B)

June 8 – This morning, we will meet our local guide with intimate knowledge of the surrounding rainforests where wild orangutans live. We’ll trek to go in search of these unique primates. We’ll also be on the lookout for Thomas Leaf Monkeys and long tailed macaques on our trek. Packed lunch will be brought along. (B,L)

  • Note that there is a $12 fee for bringing a camera into the national park
  • Please pack lightweight long trousers, long sleeved shirt, and long socks for the trek.

June 9 – Free morning to relax and take in the sounds of the forest. Optional massage available. After lunch, we’ll drive back to Medan and check into Grand Mercure Hotel for overnight. (B)

June 10 – Morning direct flight to Yogyakarta in Java. Drive to d’Omah Hotel in the rice fields. Check in and relax until the evening tour via becak with stops for local street food at the night market. (B)

June 11 – This morning, we’ll visit the Sultan’s Palace and take a walking tour to the Taman Sari Water Castle. We’ll then head over to the historic neighborhood of Kota Gede. This town is a maze of narrow streets lined with traditional silversmith shops and mosaic tiled houses. We’ll stop in for a silversmithing demonstration and have time to explore and shop. After lunch, we’ll visit the sacred Prambanan Temple complex – this Hindu Temple dates back to the 9th century. We’ll see the main sites and then have time to explore on our own. Return to hotel. (B)

June 12 – Today, we will visit the UNESCO World Heritage Borobudur Temple. This is the world’s largest Buddhist Temple complex dating to the 9th century. We’ll trek through the site and learn the history of this incredible religious monument. After lunch, we’ll explore Candi Rejo Village to experience local handicraft centers, the agricultural system of intercropping, traditional health methods, and local music. Return to hotel. (B)

June 13 – Free day to explore Yogyakarta on your own or book an optional tour. (B)

June 14 – Catch direct flight to Bali to arrive in the early evening. Connect to international flights home or stay longer and enjoy the beach. (B) * flights should be after 9 p.m.

  1. Passport – Must have at least two blank pages and be valid for at least six months beyond the date of your arrival in Indonesia.
