Itinerary
March 16 – Arrive to Mumbai International Airport. Meet your Village Experience representative and transfer to hotel for check in.
March 17 – Meet your guide in the morning for a tour of Mumbai’s famous sites including the Gateway of India, Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus, Colaba Market, and more. Enjoy a traditional lunch. Return to hotel in the afternoon. (B)
March 18 – Morning trip to the Kanheri Caves to explore these incredible 109 caves. These cave temples were constructed from the first century AD until the 10th century AD. During the 3rd century AD these caves became a major epicenter of Buddhist settlement in the region. After lunch, drive to the small town of Nasik and check into hotel for the evening. (B)
March 19 – This morning, we’ll visit Ram Kund located along the banks of the Godavari River. This is the holiest spot in Nasik and believed to be the spot where Lord Rama used to bathe. We will then visit the Trambakeshwar Temple before continuing on to Aurangabad. This is an ancient Hindu Shiva Temple known for its beautiful architecture. Upon arrival to Aurangabad, check into hotel. (B)
March 20 – Day trip to the UNESCO World Heritage Ajanta Caves. These are 30 rock cut Buddhist cave monuments dating from the second century BC to about 480 AD. They are considered masterpieces of Buddhist religious art. Stop for lunch before returning to hotel. (B)
March 21 – Day trip to the UNESCO World Heritage Ellora Caves. These are known as some of the largest rock-cut Hindu temple cave complexes in the world, with artwork dating back to 600-1000 AD. There are also several Buddhist and Jain caves. Cave 16 features the largest single monolithic rock excavation in the world, the Kailash Temple – a chariot shaped monument dedicated to the God Shiva. Stop for lunch before returning to the hotel. (B)
March 22 – Tour of Aurangabad including Aurangabad Caves, Mini Taj, and the Tomb of Emperor Aurangzeb Alamgir. We’ll find a fun restaurant for some traditional food and do a little shopping as well. (B)
March 23 – Spend today on the road to Tadoba-Andhari Tiger Reserve. Known as the “Land of Tigers” this beautiful park houses one of the largest tiger populations on Earth. You can also find leopard, sloth bear, gaur, sambar deer, wild pig, four horned antelope and more inside the park. Check into jungle lodge for the evening. This special eco-friendly lodge is located inside 10 acres of restored forest just steps from the entrance to the Tiger Reserve. (B,D)
March 24 & 25 – Morning and afternoon jeep safaris in Tadoba-Andhari Tiger Reserve. In between safaris, enjoy the pool and spa. All meals at lodge. (B,L,D)
March 26 – This morning, we’ll drive to Nagpur to catch our flights back to Mumbai. Connect to your international flights home. (B)
