Itinerary
October 7 – Arrive to Kotoka International Airport in Accra. Meet your Village Experience representative and transfer to hotel for the evening.
October 8 – Tour of Accra including Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Park, Black Star Square, Jamestown, and the Makola Market. These stops will be full of history, culture, cuisine, and more! Stop for an authentic lunch. Return to hotel in the afternoon. (B)
October 9 – Time to explore the creative side of Accra with stops at Global Mamas Retail Shop, Fantasy Coffins, Artisan Alliance Gallery, and the “Yellow Brick Road” art installation in Labadi. Stop for lunch by the beach. Return to hotel in the afternoon. (B)
October 10 – Morning drive to Kumasi – the center of the Ashanti Kingdom. Visit the Adrinka and Kente Cloth Villages to learn about local handicraft. Try your hand at producing these intricate fabrics. Afternoon visit to the Kejetia Market to learn about traditional medicine and items used in charm making. Return to hotel. (B)
October 11 – Morning tour of the Manhiya Palace Museum to learn the history of the Ashanti Kingdom. Continue on to the villages of Breku and Bonkro for some time participating in their community based tourism program. This afternoon, we’ll visit a local Cocoa Farm to learn the process of making fair trade chocolate and participate in a tree planting exercise to help with local reforestation projects. Check into community guesthouse. (B)
October 12 – Morning visit to the local market and traditional cooking class for lunch. Check out of guesthouse and proceed to Cape Coast stopping at the Assin Manso Slave River on the way. Check into hotel upon arrival. (B)
October 13 – Morning visit to the Cape Coast Slave Castle – now a UNESCO World Heritage site. This castle is known for holding more enslaved Africans captive than any other place in West Africa. Take a guided tour through the site and then spend some time reflecting on your own. Stop for lunch. Free afternoon at the hotel overlooking the ocean. (B)
October 14 – Spend the morning with Global Mamas. Meet the artisans and their families, participate in a batik making workshop, and purchase lots of great fair trade items to take back as gifts. In the afternoon, visit the Elmina Slave Castle and the fishing port. Return to hotel. (B)
October 15 – Free morning to enjoy the beach. Then drive back to Accra and check into hotel for the evening. (B)
October 16 – Transfers to airport throughout the day. (B)

Visit the Center for Disease Control website for up-to-date requirements (www.cdc.gov) and/or speak with a local travel doctor regarding vaccinations.
We also advise that you speak with your doctor regarding a prescription for an antibiotic to combat food and water borne illnesses.

- Passport is required
- Visa obtained upon arrival.
- Documentation of yellow fever vaccination is required.
- Evidence of full vaccination for a COVID-19 vaccine.
- Health Declaration Form – Complete the online Health Declaration Form within 3 days of departure here: https://www.ghs-hdf.org.
- Travel insurance – Medical evacuation, repatriation and medical coverage are required by The Village Experience. We strongly recommend that you purchase trip cancellation and trip interruption coverage.
