Itinerary

June 17– Arrive to Jomo Kenyatta International Airport in Nairobi. Check into hotel convenient to the airport for the evening.

June 18 – Meet your safari guide in the morning and proceed to the Giraffe Conservation Center to get up close and personal with these gentle giants. After lunch, drive to Nanyuki at the foothills of Mount Kenya. Check into hotel with views of the mountain and relax for the evening. (B, D)

June 19 – Game drives today in Ol Pejeta ConservancyBe on the lookout for elephant, hyena, lion, zebra, buffalo, giraffe and more. This is a rhino conservancy so both black and white rhino abound. Visit Baraka, the Blind Rhino, in the afternoon. Return to hotel in the afternoon. (B,L,D)

June 20 – Morning visit to Solio Conservancy – this park has more black and white rhino than you could ever imagine. Take in the beautiful backdrop of Mount Kenya. Visit the newly opened Animal Orphanage in time to feed the baby animals.  After lunch, return to Nairobi and check into hotel overlooking Nairobi National Park. (B)

June 21 – Morning drive to the famous Masai Mara National Reserve. Check into tented camp in time for lunch. Afternoon visit to a traditional Masai Village to support their community tourism project. Relax and enjoy the bonfire in the evening. (B,L,D)

June 22 & 23 – Game drives in the Masai Mara to go in search of the Big 5 – lion, leopard, buffalo, rhino, and elephant. Be on the lookout for cheetah, hyena, jackal, annd more!  All meals at camp. (B,L,D)

June 24 – Morning drive to Wilson Airport in Nairobi to connect to afternoon flight to Lamu Island. Transfer via boat to Shela Village. Check into Swahili style accommodations. Enjoy a relaxing evening or a drink overlooking the Indian Ocean. (B)

June 25– Lazy morning to relax and enjoy the beach. We can schedule some massages during this time as well. In the afternoon, enjoy an artisan shopping tour of Shela Village to support our friends at LuLu Stories, African Corner, Natural Lamu, Aman, Ikeno, Ali Lamu, and more – all fun handmade products from the region. In the evening, join the Shela Women’s Association for an evening samosa making class and Swahili dinner. This is a great way to support the local women of the village and learn about Swahili culture. It’s a proud project of The Village Experience. (B,D)

June 26– Today, board Hippo Dhow and set sail around the channels. Anchor to enjoy the beach, swim in the Indian Ocean, and enjoy a fresh seafood bbq. Hippo Dhow is one of our responsible tourism partners on the island. Return to Shela in the afternoon. (B,L)

June 27 – Meet the kids of Ubunifu Lamu Initiative and participate in a project with them in the morning. This project focuses on teaching art, music, dance, yoga, etc to the most vulnerable children of Mararani Village (located in the dunes behind Shela). Share lunch with the kids onsite. Evening sunset sail on Hippo Dhow. (B)

June 28 – Transfer to airport for flight back to JKIA. Day rooms at airport hotel until evening flights home. (B)
