Itinerary

August 6 – Arrive to Jomo Kenyatta International Airport in Nairobi. Transfer via shuttle to hotel for check in and overnight.

August 7 – Meet your safari guide in the morning and depart for Ol Pejeta Conservancy. This is a rhino sanctuary and houses the last living members of the Northern White Rhino species. Enjoy a game drive and lunch in the park. Check into boutique hotel in Nanyuki in the afternoon. Enjoy sundowners with incredible views of Mount Kenya. (B)

August 8 – Today, you can stretch your legs and have fun in the Ngare Ndare Forest. Enjoy a walk across the suspension bridge and a hike through the forest with a local ranger. Cool off in the natural pools. Be on the lookout for the many herds of elephants that live in the forest. Stop for lunch at one of our favorite restaurants and then return to the hotel. (B)

August 9 – Sleep in and enjoy a lazy morning coffee and breakfast at the foothills of Mount Kenya. Return to Nairobi and check into Wildebeest Eco-Lodge for the evening. (B)

August 10 – Morning drive to the famous Masai Mara National Reserve. Arrive to your tented camp in time for lunch. Check in, explore the property, enjoy the bonfire, and relax to the sounds of nature. (B,L,D)

August 11/12 – Safari days in search of the Great Migration. Millions of wildebeest and zebra move across the plains from Tanzania to Kenya at this time…and with their arrival, come their predators – lion, leopard, cheetah, hyena and more. This is one of the most exciting times to visit the Masai Mara! All meals at camp. (B,L,D)

August 13 – Visit a traditional Masai Village in the morning as part of the local community based tourism program in the area. Depart for Nairobi. Upon arrival, visit the Giraffe Conservation Center. Stop at Galleria Mall to use the ATM or exchange money. Check into Crowne Plaza. (B)

August 14 – Catch a morning flight to the Lamu Archipelago. Lamu is the oldest living Swahili settlement in the world and a UNESCO World Heritage site. Meet your Village Experience representative and transfer via boat to Shela Village. Check into your Swahili accommodations and enjoy lunch. In the afternoon, we’ll watch a special cultural presentation by Ubunifu Lamu Initiative and bring our supplies to the group. (B)

August 15 – Board Hippo Dhow in the morning for a sailing trip around the island. Sit back and take in the stunning scenery. Anchor on a secluded beach and swim in the Indian Ocean as the crew prepares a fresh fish bbq right on the beach. Return to Shela in the afternoon. We suggest eating dinner at Peponi Restaurant in the evening. (B,L)

August 16 – Enjoy a lazy morning to read a book, walk along the beach, or take a swim. Then join the Shela Women’s Association for a Samosa making class and authentic Swahili lunch. Special farewell sunset sail on Hippo Dhow in the evening. (B,L)

August 17 – Transfer to the airport to catch a morning flight to Nairobi. Connect to international flights home. (B)

Vaccinations

Visit the Center for Disease Control website for up-to-date requirements (www.cdc.gov) and/or speak with a local travel doctor regarding vaccinations.

We also advise that you speak with your doctor regarding a prescription for an antibiotic to combat food and water borne illnesses.

Required Documents

  • Passport
  • Visa – All passengers are required to obtain an e-visa. Apply for an e-Visa here: www.evisa.go.ke.
  • Travel insurance – The plan must include medical evacuation, repatriation, medical coverage, trip cancellation and trip interruption.
  • Proof of Vaccination – Vaccination certificates must be uploaded to the Global Haven website before boarding your flight.
  • Travelers who are fully vaccinated are exempted from the PCR test requirement for entry.
