Itinerary

October 16 – Arrive to La Aurora International Airport in Guatemala City. Meet your Village Experience representative and transfer to hotel. Relax for the day as the rest of the group arrives.

October 17 – Meet our wonderful tour guide, Ingrid, for a walking tour of the UNESCO World Heritage City of Antigua. Visit La Merced, San Francisco, Central Park, the main Cathedral and ruins, and 5th Avenue. Join Ingrid and family for a traditional Guatemalan Cooking Class in Jocotenango for dinner. (B,D)

October 18 – Load into your 4×4 vehicle today to drive to Volcano Fuego for a day of service with our partners at Vamos Adelante. Participate in a food distribution to the elderly in several remote villages. Enjoy a packed lunch onsite. Return to Antigua in the afternoon. (B,L)

October 19 – Today is the day! Enjoy a ride in a specialty SUV to base camp on the slopes of Volcano Acatenango. Then, embark on a short hike to the camp. Have dinner and watch sunset with views of Volcano Fuego – active and full of life! (B,D)

October 20 – Rise and shine to watch sunrise and have breakfast. Then, hike back to base camp and depart for Antigua. Drive to Lake Atitlan and check into hotel. Have a relaxing afternoon at the lake. (B)

October 21 – Morning boat ride to visit various Mayan Villages including San Juan La Laguna, San Pedro and Santa Catarina Palopo. Shop local handicraft, try amazing coffee, eat lunch at a hospitality training center, and then return to the hotel in the afternoon. (B)

October 22 – Morning drive to Guatemala City. Stop for lunch and then visit the National Museum of Archeology and Ethnology. Check into hotel for a relaxing evening. (B)

October 23 – Transfers to airport for flights home. (B)

Visit the Center for Disease Control website for up-to-date requirements (www.cdc.gov) and/or speak with a local travel doctor regarding vaccinations.

Recommendations for Guatemala include:

We also advise that you speak with your doctor regarding a prescription for an antibiotic to combat food and water borne illnesses.
