Emily Moorefield Mariola, ERYT-500,  is the founder of Flex Yoga Wooster and is a certified Yoga Instructor through Amazing Yoga Studios of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Emily took her first yoga class in 2004 and has been hooked ever since. Emily uses her understanding of competitive athletics and awareness of physical capabilities to enhance her yoga practice as well as her teaching. Emily teaches a Power Vinyasa Flow style of yoga that integrates the physical poses (or asanas) with the breath (or pranayama) in a fluid and powerful way. Emily has been working with The Village Experience on yoga programs around the world and has led groups to Kenya several times.


Itinerary

February 26 –  Arrive to Jomo Kenyatta International Airport in Nairobi, Kenya. Meet hotel representative and transfer to hotel for the evening.

February 27 Morning yoga session with Emily. Then, depart for Lake Nakuru National Park in time for lunch. Afternoon game drive to go in search of lion, leopard, hyena, giraffe, rhino, buffalo, zebra and more. Dinner and overnight at lodge. (B,L,D)

February 28 – Early morning game drive to see the park predators in action. After breakfast, depart for Mbita on the shores of Lake Victoria in Western Kenya. Check into hotel, enjoy a yoga session overlooking the lake, and then meet the Village Experience team in the evening – Jackton, Benard, Caroline, Mama Judy and others are excited for your visit! February 29 Morning yoga session. Spend today at the Primary School founded by The Village Experience. Meet the teachers and students, participate in the free lunch program, and work on a special project for the school. Motorbike tour of Rusinga Island to watch the sun set. (B,L,D)

March 1 – Morning yoga session. Spend today with the Live Long Ladies – this group of 55 widows is ready to show you the village, welcome you to their homes, teach you how to make chapati, and more. Participate in a special project for the women today. (B,L,D)

March 2 – Morning transfer to Kisumu Airport to catch afternoon flight to Nairobi. Transfer to hotel for the evening. (B)

March 3 – Catch the morning flight to the Lamu Archipelago. Meet your TVE representative and transfer via boat to Shela Village. Check into accommodations, enjoy lunch, and have an afternoon yoga class. Board Hippo Dhow in the evening for a sunset sail. (B)

March 4 – Spend the morning with the kids of Ubunifu Lamu Initiative. Visit their art center and support a much needed project for the organization. Share lunch with the kids and do a yoga class together. Then, visit Captain Yusuf’s Shamba Experience for fresh coconuts and a view of Mararani. Afternoon yoga session. (B,L)

March 5 – Morning yoga. Then, board Hippo Dhow for a day on the water. Enjoy sailing around the islands, swimming in the Indian Ocean, and walking on the beach. Anchor on a secluded beach while the crew prepares a fresh fish bbq for you. Return to Shela in the afternoon. (B,L)

March 6 – Morning Yoga. Then, embark on a fair trade shopping tour to visit our friends at Lulu Stories, African Corner, Natural Lamu, Bahari Love and more. In the evening, walk over to the Shela Women’s Association for a Swahili Cooking Class and dinner. This is part of our responsible tourism program and a great way to support the women of the village. (B,D)

March 7 – Catch the morning flight back to Nairobi. Enjoy day rooms at the airport hotel until flights back in the evening. (B)

Itinerary 

February 22 – Arrive to Jomo Kenyatta International Airport. Meet your hotel representative and transfer to hotel for the evening.

February 23 – Meet your safari guide in the hotel lobby and drive to the famous Masai Mara National Reserve. Stop for lunch and coffee along the way. Check into tented camp in the afternoon and settle into your new surroundings. Dinner and overnight at camp. (B,D)

February 24 & 25 – Game drives inside the Masai Mara to go in search of lion, leopard, cheetah, hyena, hippo, zebra, giraffe and more. All meals at camp. (B,L,D)

February 26 – Morning visit to traditional Masai Village to support local community based tourism initiatives. Then, drive back to Nairobi to meet the group and begin the Flex Yoga Seva and Safari trip. Check into hotel upon arrival. (B)
