Itinerary
October 24 – Arrive to International Airport in Beijing. Meet your Village Experience Representative and transfer to hotel for the evening.
October 25 – Meer your guide in the morning and embark on a historical tour of Beijing. Visit Tiananmen Square and The Forbidden City in the morning. Then, head to a traditional Hutong for a rickshaw ride and dumpling making class. In the afternoon, visit the Temple of Heaven from the 15th Century. Return to hotel. (B,L)
October 26 – Today, we will drive to the Juyongguang section of the Great Wall of China. This section is less visited by tourists so we will be off the beaten path today! In the afternoon, we will visit the Ming Dynasty tombs and the Sacred Way at the foot of the Tianshou Mountains. Return to hotel. (B)
October 27 – Check out of hotel. This morning, we will visit the UNESCO World Heritage Summer Palace and explore the many gardens, lakes, palaces, architectural structures, and cultural relics onsite. Proceed to train station for four hour journey to Luoyang. Upon arrival, transfer to hotel for overnight. (B)
October 28 – Today, we’ll explore Dengfeng City – known as the Center of Heaven and Earth. This is a UNESCO World Heritage site and houses the famous Shaolin Temple and Pagoda Forest. It is also the birthplace of Kung Fu…which we will learn about and watch a demonstration. Return to hotel in the evening. (B)
October 29 – This morning, we will venture to the UNESCO World Heritage Longmen Grottoes. This 1500 year old site is a stone carving masterpiece and took over 400 years to complete. It is one of the finest examples of Chinese Buddhist art and houses tens of thousands of statues of Shakyamuni Buddha and his disciples. In the afternoon, we’ll board our train for the three hour journey to Xi’an. Upon arrival, check into hotel for the evening. (B)
October 30 – Today we explore one of the main highlights of the trip – the 3,000 year old TerraCotta Warriors! This UNESCO World Heritage site houses over 8,000 statues depicting the army of the first Emperor of China, Qin Shi Huang. We cannot wait to see this in person! In the afternoon, we will explore the Muslim Quarter of Xi’an and the Grand Mosque. This is the largest mosque in China and dates back to 742 AD. It is also a UNESCO World Heritage site. Return to hotel in the evening. (B)
October 31 – Today, we take a train 3 hours to the city of Chengdu – the home of the giant panda. Upon arrival, check into hotel and enjoy a free afternoon to explore. (B)
November 1 – This will be a day you never forget as we spend the day volunteering at the Panda Base in Dujiangyan. There are less than 2,000 Giant Pandas in the wild and 70% of them are found in Sichuan area. We will help with preparing food and cleaning the base and learn all about this beautiful, but endangered species. Return to hotel in the evening. (B)
November 2 – Today, we will visit the Giant Buddha of Leshan – the largest and tallest stone Buddha statue in the world! It is a UNESCO World Heritage site that we are super excited about. We’ll climb to the top for a unique view and then we’ll also take a boat ride along the Minjiang River for a different perspective. Return to hotel in the evening. (B)
November 3 – Today, we will fly to Zhangjiajie – known as Avatar Mountain. Zhangjiajie became the first national forest park in China in 1982 and contains more than 243 peaks and 3,000 pinnacles and spires. Check into hotel and enjoy a free afternoon to explore. (B)
November 4 – This morning, we will take the Bailong Elevator to visit Yuanjiajie where you can see Hallelujah Mountain. The views from this platform are incredible! In the afternoon, we will visit Tianzi Mountain known for its cloud sea, peak forest, and bizarre rock formations. We’ll descend via cable car. Return to hotel in the evening. (B)
November 5 – Morning excursion to Baofeng Lake to take in the beautiful scenery. Then, head to Tianmen Mountain – this is the first recorded mountain in the history of Zhangjiajie and considered the soul of the forest. Evening flight to Shanghai. Check into airport hotel for the evening. (B)
November 6 – End of group trip. Check out of hotel at 10am. Transfer to Shanghai Pudong International Airport for flights home today OR stay on your own and explore Shanghai. (B)
Extension Trip to Tibet
Inclusions: airport transfers as a group, Tibet entry permit, all accommodations, private guide, private vehicle, meals as listed, all monastery and temple visits and entry fees, visit to Barkhor Street, day trip to Yamdrok Lake, and all bank/wire processing fees.
Not included: roundtrip flights to/from Shanghai to Lhasa. We will list the flight to book when they become available.

Itinerary
November 6 – Transfer to airport for flight to Lhasa, Tibet (at own expense). Check into hotel and settle in for the evening. (B)
November 7 – Meet your local guide and explore Jokhang Temple in the morning. This Buddhist temple and monastery was built in 640 AD and is considered the “heart of Lhasa.” Then head to the historic Barkhor Street for shopping and lunch. End the afternoon with a visit to the Sera Monastery – one of the “great three” Gelug University Monasteries in all of Tibet. Return to hotel in the evening. (B,L)
Nov 8 – Today, your guide will take you to Potala Palace in the morning. This UNESCO World Heritage site is a dzong fortress and was the Winter Palace of the Dalai Lamas from 1649 to 1959. Next, you’ll head to Norbulingka Palace and Park – the Summer Residences of the the Dali Lamas from the 1780s up until 1959. You’ll end the day with a visit to The Dreprung Monastery – another one of the “great three” Gelug University Monasteries and the largest of all in Tibet. Return to hotel in the evening. (B,L)
Nov 9 – Day trip out to Yamdrok Lake to visit Rutok Temple, have a picnic lunch lakeside, and photo ops from the Lurila Platform. This is one of the largest lakes in Tibet and absolutely stunning! Return to Lhasa in the afternoon. (B,L)
Nov 10 – Easy day with guide to explore the city and enjoy tea and coffee shops, search for souvenirs, stop for a traditional lunch, and have some time to take more photos. (B)
Nov 11 – Transfer to airport for flights back to Shanghai. Trip ends at the airport. (B)
