Recycled Art Mural Project

Recycled Art Mural Project

GOAL: $1500

Lamu, Kenya

Members of our Yoga + Beer community are traveling to Kenya with The Village Experience this September. We are raising money for an amazing collaboration with Ubunifu Lamu Initiative in Shela Village.

Ubunifu Lamu Initiative was launched during the Covid lockdown to inspire and support vulnerable children living in Mararani and Shela Villages. Ubunifu Lamu Initiative’s mission is to integrate cultural and creative programming into the everyday lives of these children. They provide a unique platform - a gallery and studio where kids express themselves through art, music, poetry, dance, yoga, and sports activities. Through the execution of art exhibitions and cultural events, Ubunifu Lamu Initiative nurtures the children’s talents while educating them at the same time.

We are raising money to work with the artists of Ubunifu Lamu Initiative and install a recycled art mural on the walls of the new Safari Vets Clinic. This will be fun and educational for the kids and help draw people to the clinic. The mural would be made entirely from recycled materials and become a stop on The Village Experience’s art  tour through the community to get more tourists off of the beach and into the village to support locals.

Our funds will purchase paint supplies, sponsor the art teacher, allow for transport of recycled materials to the mural site, and provide the artists and children with lunch for the day.

It is one of Ubunifu Lamu Initiative’s main goals to install these beautiful, environmentally friendly murals throughout the village, and we are happy to help and be a part of this incredible project.
